Pawtucket Red Sox
Pawtucket Red Sox
Given the kind of historical reputation Pawtucket has, it would be natural to assume that much of its culture is based on manufacturing. While it may be true in some ways, we would like to point out that Pawtucket has not limited itself to a culture of manufacturing. For instance, being the home city to the triple A minor league affiliate to the Boston Red Sox, the Pawtucket Red Sox (known by their fans as the PawSox), has made Pawtucket a major baseball city.
It should be noted that McCoy Stadium, home of the Pawtucket Red Sox, is where the longest professional baseball game in history was played. It lasted thirty three innings and it was against the Rochester Red Wings. It is duly noted that the Pawsox won this game!
As a baseball team, the PawSox can be considered as one of the great teams of minor league baseball, as they have won the Governors Cup twice (in 1973 and 1984), and have participated in the championship series a grand total of six times (1973, 1977, 1978, 1984, 1991 and 2003).
