Pawtucket Newspaper

Pawtucket Newspaper

There is ONE major news source in Pawtucket, and this happens to be the Pawtucket Times. The Pawtucket Times is released from Monday through Saturday, and it is released not only in Pawtucket but also some places in the eastern part of Providence County in Rhode Island.

It is interesting to note that the city of Pawtucket's news source began as an afternoon newspaper. Back then, it was called The Evening Times, and it first started circulating in 1885 with much thanks to its founder, George O. Willard. In 1890, The Evening Times was sold to a Mr. David O. Black, who managed to keep the paper as part of his family's holdings for four full generations. The next time this paper was sold, it was in 1957, and it was sold to a company this time – New England Newspapers Inc. (a company which would later become Ingersoll Publications). In 1989, Ingersoll was sold to the Journal Register Company, but it would only hold onto the Pawtucket newspaper for barely two decades – in 2007, RISN (Rhode Island Suburban Newspapers) bought properties off of the Journal Register; this included The Pawtucket Times.

There are, of course, other Pawtucket news sources such as All Pawtucket, All the Time which releases a free weekly print edition (although it's a web-based resource). Most of the competitors of the Pawtucket Times are not Pawtucket-based newspapers.
