Pawtucket, Rhode Island

A good deal of Pawtucket's significance as a city is connected to its history as the root of the American Industrial Revolution. Pawtucket, a city in Rhode Island's Providence County, was officially founded in 1671 and it would not be until 1790 that Samuel Slater would bring forth the true boom of the Industrial Revolution by setting up the Slater Mill somewhere in downtown Pawtucket. By 1793, Slater Mill became the very first cotton spinning mill with a fully mechanized power system that became successful commercially in America. That says a lot, we tell you. Pawtucket continued to follow this industrial trend for the next century, making it a giant in the world of manufacturing, particularly in textile.

Today, Pawtucket is showing far more diversity than most other places that have flourished in a niche. While it is still true that Pawtucket is still known for manufacturing textiles, metal, silverware and jewelry, (and currently it is the home of the corporate headquarters of games giant HASBRO – you know, the guys who make Monopoly) their current focus is to develop Pawtucket as a community. What this means is that they have been expanding their professional opportunities to include industries outside of manufacturing.

With a population of almost seventy-three thousand people, Pawtucket is fourth largest city in Rhode Island.
